Tips From The T-List
“In the world of online-offline convergence, the power of collective thought and collaboration is intensified when it is condensed into an easily accessible form. The beauty of the T-List and all its contributors is the variety of perspectives that are revealed. We believe the Tips from the T-List initiative is a great way to increase the credibility of the Travel blogging community and to showcase those who contribute as a valuable and deeply committed group of industry insiders that want to leverage their knowledge to give back to the global travel and tourism industry.”
Stephen Joyce & Jens Thraenhart, Founders of the Tips from the T-List
T stands for Travel, and the T-List is the unofficial community of bloggers in the travel industry. First conceived back in March 2007, the community grew from a handful of bloggers with a focus in technology and online marketing to over a hundred industry experts in areas such as technology, marketing, branding, hotels, luxury travel, wellness, climate change, start-ups, and many more. The growing list of authors are located all over the world, focus both on trade, consumer and destination issues. The collaborative T-List community is unique to the travel industry, as it brings together industry expert knowledge and opinion that are often quoted online and in traditional media.
The world of online travel has changed dramatically over the years. Suppliers have moved away from traditional distribution in order to sell directly to consumers. Distribution companies have purchased online travel agencies in order to control sales and distribution. Traditional travel agencies have lost out to consolidation and the seemingly endless marketing budgets of the large OTAs. But now we are beginning to see some new phenomena appear. Travelers are asking more questions, doing more research, and taking their time as they find products and destinations that meet their specific needs. One of the largest and most influential spheres of online research is the blogging community. We are intrigued by the power of user generated content. Recent research shows that peer reviews have a dramatic effect on how travelers make travel buying decisions. More than ever, travelers are relying on the opinions of peers, non-commercial writers, and the average passenger, rather than relying on the recommendations of agents, commercial writers, or corporate marketers. By examining these travel & tourism technology trends we can better understand how user generated content, social media, and peer reviews impact e-tourism globally and how to use these emerging trends to the benefit of our organizations. Tips from the T-List brings together the collective intelligence of dozens of influential travel industry bloggers from around the World. The blogs and the authors that are represented in this book are recognized online resources; they are the people the industry turns to for advice, recommendations, tips, and insider knowledge.
